Show us your skyline : a new blog meme

Skyline view

How this meme began :
Just yesterday I had a first-time blog visit from a reader via the Maricopa County (Arizona, USA) domain maricopa.gov. Welcome, welcome. That website has a beautiful skyline displayed in its header. It gave me the idea that we could start a new blog meme, showing each other our respective personal skylines. If you think the view out front is not so great, you can show us the back yard view instead if you prefer. Let's all join in and share our area's skylines.

Alternatively, if you have to walk/drive a little way to get to your favourite view, just tell us that it's nearby, but show us anyway. This Earth is a beautiful place; share your view please.

Just take a photo of your local personal skyline, crop it to the panoramic style shown above, blog it yourself, then link to THIS Skyline Meme Page and mail me your permalink so that I can link back to it.

My back yard Skyline view

I see that Susan of Easy Bake Coven joined the Skyline meme first. I especially liked the way she shot her city nestling in its valley, so I just now climbed up the hill and took one of our village Henglarn nestling in its valley too; pop 600, elev 800, 1 church, 1 shop, 1 pub.
Frank Paynter has blogged a skyline taken through tall prairie grass. Just this morning he's added a city skyline of Madison, taken from Turville Park.
Gary Turner shows us inter alia a composite skyline of the River Clyde in Scotland (near Anderston, the famous quaint fishing village which Billy Connelly told us all about ;-)
Jim Roberts shows us the skyline at the golf course he's been known to pretend to play at.
Colleen (Santiago Dreaming) shows us the view from the cemetery, and I'm just wondering if it's on Elm Street, or why choose the cemetery Colleen? Kinda gothic, "living" there ;-) Just for comparison with your Kansas cemetary, here's our local Catholics' graveyard, Colleen.
Claude Covo-Farchi, has trees on Parisienne Walkways. That's a Gary Moore Blues title too.
And Cameron has another beautiful tree-laden skyline over at Punkclown Daze.
Blue Witch photographed her skyline from a hot air balloon, not a broomstick ;-)
Peter Harris goes one up on Blue Witch and gives us an aerial view of Headcorn.
Doug Alder has some pics of Rossland, Skyline and Main Street. One of him in the woods too.
Over at Mandarin Design, Michelle has a neat shot of the Port of Sacramento from the car.
Klaus Steigler, blogless Alaskan real-estate man, has a different riverside skyline.
3rd Daughter has two clickable mini-photos from her antipodean camera-phone.
Dave Anastasi shows us a magnificent Boston Sunset. That is a SUPERB photo, Dave!
Diane Fry shows us 2 views of the Rochester (Michigan) skyline. But I scrolled down to her previous post and must admit I like her memes too ;-)

On a hike through the nearby Sauerland countryside in Germany.

Photoblogger Cameron Stephen is helping out with an improved viewer interface to the Skyline Meme. Go try it.

Eva Gordon (Dallas, TX, USA) has a nighttime shot of Dallas. Les Hall has put up his Dallas skyline for our perusal too.

Riri has blogged a 360° view of Toronto, from the CN Tower Observation Deck.

'Daisies' skyline is taken in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada "and as you can see, autumn has hit full force here which means the white stuff is just around the corner".

Blogless Doris Ehrenstein (Talkeetna, Alaska, USA) mailed me a photo showing that they have the first snow already.

Tudy shows us sunset contrails.

Frank Paynter has added a Madison skyline.

There is also a skyline of NYC from 1999 blogged by Sunghoon Cho.

Pat Wilson took these pictures of the London(UK) skyline from the kitchen window back in May.

Harriet (Buffy) has a super shot of her London(UK) street.

When you join the meme I expect you to put a link to the Skyline Meme page near your skyline photo, to spread the meme. Yes, I'm talking to you, Darieus, 'Exposing Myself', Joseph Holmes, Martin, Jonathan Day-Reiner, Arne, Brian, and Sara.

MsCantBWrong was! But now she's corrected her URL to this one. Gwen Harlow shows us Downtown Oakland, California(USA). Cameron has added a Skyline looking north-east towards Healsville, Victoria. (presumably in Australia).

Best Skyline so far? Since I wanted panoramic views in particular, IMHO Josef Holmes is best so far, a horizontally scrollable panoramic view of Brooklyn and Manhattan (New York, USA) taken from 1 Hanson Place (29th floor). Go, Joe!

Sunset of the Skyline meme

My last Main Street sunset photo taken for The Skyline Meme.

My Skyline meme appears to have run out of steam, with no new submissions apart from the San Francisco (USA) skyline by Alan Duke this week. So I've decided to let the meme expire in a glorious orange. It bows out with the final skyline photo, shown above. If I missed any last-minute stragglers, mail me and I'll link to them, otherwise consider the meme closed. And remember please , photoblogger Cameron Stephen (thanks, man!) has an improved viewer interface to the Skyline Meme still available too. Go look.

Late Arrivals

Michael Appelmans added his photo of a Pacific Storm Front on October 30th.
Jimmy McCarthy (Wick, Scotland) shows us a Paris(France) skyline taken FROM Notre Dame.
Kate Little lives on the waterfront near Portsmouth (GB).
Cameron shows us Aura Vale Lake, near Melbourne, where he goes kayaking.

Mike Collins, (Chicago, Illinois,USA) shows us the Chicago skyline from his Wrigleyville neighborhood. My heart did a BIG BIG leap when I saw the mail header, thinking the sender was THAT Michael Collins, and was sending a photo of an Earthrise skyline from lunar orbit in Apollo 11 taken back in 1969. Michael Collins was the astronaut who stayed in lunar orbit on Apollo 11 while Armstrong and Aldrin went down to kick the dust around Tranquillity Base and screw up the first lunar sentence. Heartbreaking, to go all that way and then NOT touch down. I remember staying up, it was 03:24 CET as I remember. But even if you merely share his name, welcome Mike C. from Wrigleyville :-)

Klaus Ellermann is a tower controller at Ahden Airport in Germany (EDLP) and on a clear day he can see 2 miles away Wewelsburg Castle , Germany's only castle with a triangular ground plan. It's a museum and youth-hostel now.

My favourite astro-photo sky shot is of the Horsehead Nebula in Orion, taken through a 10 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain. Now Doc Searls has blogged a great snapshot : Doc Searl's dawn skyline, showing Venus, Moon etc all in one shot.

March 2005 : Photoblogger Beni Buess sent me a shot out of the window of the apartment in Zurich, Switzerland.

April 2005 : Jakarta girl photoblogger Beyondsky/ShugoreI sent a belated link to her B&W photo contribution to this Skyline Meme, it is Sydney CBD skyline, as seen from The Rocks.

May 2005 : New Zealand photoblogger Robin Capper sent a further contribution to this Skyline Meme, it is the Waitakere Ranges at sunset,West Auckland, New Zealand.

June 2005 : This one I reproduce from the NASA website. I've cropped it put it into the 'Skyline Meme' panoramic format. It's unique, I just couldn't resist. Ladies and Gentlemen, as taken by the Mars Rover, Sunset on Mars!

There's a nice sharp shot of the Downtown Houston skyline contributed by photobloggeress Laurie, in Houston (TX). She has some other great skyline shots on her site too. Click though to the Galveston Sunset for example :-)

November 2005 : Photoblogger Gavin Gough sent this stitched (5524*300) sylvan panorama.
